Hey Sean, this is a great film for opening people's minds. I'm not sure how I feel about all of his claims. I've watched the film twice now, the first time was over the summer and the second time was a month or so ago. I can't remember a lot of the specifics, but I do remember that I felt differently about the film each time. I've done a lot of my own research and my conclusions about a lot of this material have been changing and developing, evidently, since I felt differently the second time. It's really important to evaluate these things for yourself.

My advice for anyone watching this film, or other alternative documentaries, is to doubt every claim made and try to prove it wrong. Look up every claim for yourself and try and see if you can prove or disprove them individually. Verify and contrast the information against mainstream sources and official sources as well.

Hey I was there last Thursday, the day after the measure was defeated. The good news is that this radical legislation got about 40% support, which means it could likely pass next year.

Also, the state house is really cool because there is little security, no metal detectors and you can bring your gun in, open or concealed carry. I really loved Concord, I wish that I could have stayed for more than a few hours.

This sounds a lot like the artist guilds of antiquity, which, while providing an organization to the community was also considered oppressive and constricting, effectively censoring countless artists. However, in a perverse way, if this "Secretary of Arts" does become a real thing that supports some art while censoring others it could lead to an artistic revolution of sorts. Giving artists a real antagonist (such as strict social convention or government censorship) seems to be formula for great movements of self expression in opposition of some type of oppressive structure.

Anybody who couldn't spot this charlatan from the back in the summer really should precluded themselves from voting until they develop better recognition skills.

How many times did I hear this summer, "I like what he says" ? How about looking at how this man had lived his life? People were so fast to jump on anybody who wondered why all of Obama's associates were so unsavory/ Now you know why!

Thank you for posting this. I don't see how any thinking human being could call SDS out for anti-semitism of all things. "NO GAZA" is racism. I found the defacement to be disgusting and embarrassing. This ignorance and bias needs to stop. Stop letting yourselves be brainwashed by American Pro-Israel media. Innocent people are dying in both sides of the conflict. Lets do something to stop it. Let's make the U.S. government stop giving weapons to Israel and start promoting a peaceful, nonviolent solution. Let's end this racist occupation.

Here's a perspective from the Austrian School of Economics that claims government hinders the arts. Government aid usually jumps on board already highly supported programs to gain political favor. Also, the money tends to flow to those who are the best at filling out forms, not necessarily the best artists. Would we have more art? Possibly. Would it be better? Doubtful.

Also, another point of the lecture was these programs are essentially subsidies for the middle and upper class entertainment needs. People that could typically afford to pay $15 dollars to get into some event can get in for free thanks to the government, but rarely are the programs helpful to the poor.

It's certainly an interesting debate. I just get concerned because whenever I think of state-sponsored art I think of statues of politicians and government propaganda films. Scary!

I'm not sure how this article could be interpreted as anti-Semetic. Does anyone understand the difference between an ethnic group and the actions of a government? Surely all Americans aren't to blame for the war-crimes perpetrated under Bush (and now under Obama) so why would all Jews be to blame for the shameful actions of the government of Israel? The anti-Semitsm card is pulled when no other defense is available, used to divert attention into some irrelevant side-argument that ignores the facts at hand.

Also, I'm sorry that I did not take pictures of EVERY single defacement so everyone could see the crossed out peace symbol. Even without this picture I have a hard time understanding how anyone could believe that this was an attempt to "equalize the tone" of the message. I'm sure the people of Gaza would not consider "No Gaza" to be fair and peaceful.

Hm, the keen observer might notice the giant word PEACE written in Hebrew by the by the oh-so-terrible defacer, next to the less offensive graffiti put up by SDS. The impartial observer might discover that it is a blatany lie that any peace signs were crossed out. The neutral onlooker might see the words Sderot and Ashkelon listed next to the lists of other places recently damaged. An unbiased observer might see that it is rather funny that any organization that had stencils showing Israelis as baby killers would be so offended by the attempted equalizing of the tone of the hateful tunnel message the SDS left.
Then again, this organization has shown several times that it is not afraid of openly embracing a campaign of anti-Semitism, intolerance, and hate-mongering.

Wow! That was a really powerful display they had there. I'm sorry to see that similar actions were taken against those signs as well. This is how I look at it: if you really want to be prideful of Israel (we're talking a country with a government and politicians here) wouldn't you want to hold the country accountable? That way there would be something to be proud of, not just some cesspool of crimes internally and externally.

At one time in my life I considered joining the Air Force. I decided not to, not because I don't like the idea of fighting for the military, but I had just decided to pursue an education first. Recently however, I have made the decision that if the draft were ever reinstated I would choose not fight, unless of course I felt that my safety, the safety of my family, or our liberty was truly threatened. Never would I fight for some trumped up cause disguised as "bringing democracy to the rest of the world."
Laying your life on the line is the last resort in protection of your liberties and I would not hesitate even a second if I felt it was necessary to do so. But a draft in a so-called "free country" flies in the face of liberty and should never be tolerated. If fighting were truly necessary for the preservation of our liberties we would have no problem recruiting people to fight, there would be no need to draft people they would be begging to fight.
I mainly owe my new thinking on what is and isn't worth fighting for to Ron Paul and Aimee Allen. I suggest everyone listen to her sing Universal Soldier. And listen to Ron Paul's speech at the Rally for the Republic.

Wow. I can't believe the above poster totally missed the point of your article. At no point did you give any views on the crisis itself.

A question to smilidon: although you seem to be siding with Israel, don't you see how it was offensive to paint over peaceful tunnel graffiti? The people of Israel aren't the only ones afraid for their lives--have you been paying attention to the deaths in Gaza?

I don't see how this article is ignorant at all. Andrew simply discussed the issue and re-posted what the protesters asked for. The subject of this article is clearly the tunnel graffiti. If you don't have anything to say about the subject, I see your points as counter-productive.

First of all, I never said I agreed with my fellow student's demands, their methods for achieving them, OR the practice of giving preferential scholarships based on race, nationality, etc. I thought it was a non-issue for this article.

Also, I'm not sure why not living in Israel would preclude me from having an opinion on the matter.

Thirdly, most of the Katyusha rockets don't even kill anyone. Do a Google search for "Katyusha rocket" and one of the top hits is about 30 chickens that were killed in 2006. It definitely sucks to get hit by one, but you're more likely to die driving to work. I don't care which side you're rooting for, or better yet if you just want peace, it's best to put this in perspective. Hundreds have died in single days of the recent assault by Israel. These rockets are a leftover from WWII and they have little to no payload.

Lastly, I'm not sure how you could judge me as "hopelessly ignorant" without even knowing my exact views on the topic. Oh well.

You can't give someone a scholarship just because they are Palestinian. That's called RACISM but it's ok when you do it right hypocrite? I guess that one whites only scholarship of a $100 was too much but 5 full rides just because you are Palestinian is ok. Right?
