  • People can be oblivious all they want. Yet crime is generally both random and a product of parenting, mental deficiencies, disorders, neglect, over abundance. People get mad at criminals when they should be mad at themselves first. Why am I saying this? It's because we always look for the "band aid" to our societal problems. Oh if we just put up cameras around the city that will solve everything right? Yet haven't they seen HBO's The Wire where the one kid takes rocks and smashes the cameras on purpose? I know that I am referencing a television show but it happens. Kids can grow more claustrophobic in this type of environment and it can be even more destructive to their wellbeing in general. Government tends to think in how can I get re-elected more than how can I save kids lives? Not all politicians are bad but too many are. We need to think of simpler solutions that will help the kids and our community more so. It's funny how the easiest solutions bring more long standing change like for instance listening and talking to people about crime and basically sharing knowledge with them. This has more of an impact because it can always be done. Cameras can be destroyed. To end my points I have an extremely appropriate song by artists of the name Dead Presidents called "police state" that reminds me of this camera issue.
